Course
Awareness of lifeboat release and retrieval systems
About this activity There have been numerous lifeboat incidents over the years. Sadly, these have resulted in loss of life and major injuries. Many officers and crewmembers have therefore become wary of lifeboat release systems. This e-learning module is designed to help crews develop confidence in the launching and retrieval of side-launched lifeboats. The module describes the basic operation of a generic lifeboat release and retrieval system. It also explains general routine maintenance to be carried out ensuring that a lifeboat can be reliably launched and retrieved. Please note that this module is only intended for vessels fitted with davit or side-launched totally-enclosed lifeboats.
