About Course

The mooring and unmooring of vessels is an integral part of life onboard. Mooring is one of the first operations you do when the ship leaves or arrives at a port. It is also one of the most complex and dangerous activities onboard and can have serious consequences if things go wrong. Mooring, towing, and anchoring can put a lot of strain on lines and equipment because of the high forces involved. The importance of proper knowledge and understanding of such operations by the crew will avoid accidents and casualties.

Upon completion of this course, the candidate will have full knowledge and understanding of the following points:
– Planning and Preparation for Mooring focusing on Safety Culture during Operations.
– Winches, Types of Lines and how to care for Mooring Equipment.
– Different Types of Mooring Techniques.

Care of Mooring Lines and Maintenance of Equipment
Most vessels operate a planned maintenance schedule for all their mooring equipment. The manufacturers’ instructions should arrange these maintenance schedules.

Baltic Moor
Each ship's design includes mooring arrangements so that ropes and cables of recommended strength can allow for mooring operations alongside a berth, buoy, jetty, or floating platform. A vessel will be positioned alongside a jetty or a berth, between mooring buoys, to a mooring buoy, another ship or barge, and then made fast using her mooring equipment or shorelines. Common mooring methods include the following: Mediterranean and Baltic mooring, Single and Multi buoy, Running and Standing, and Ship to Ship Mooring.
